Hand-finished and hand-glazed, these distinctive cooking and serving pieces owe their inspiration to the designs originated by Edith Heath fifty years ago. Rounded edges add a nuance to her ceramics, justly famous for pairing classic modern design with durability. Made by skilled craftsmen in Heath's original Sausalito, California factory, the perfectly contoured, lidded casseroles go from oven to table. Dishwasher, oven and microwave safe.
This casserole dish flips its lid to do double duty as a serving bowl! The handle of the lid becomes the foot of the serving bowl. I threw both pieces on the wheel from smooth white stoneware clay. The decoration was stamped into the clay, and brushed with a green stain under the glaze. Both pieces are glazed inside and out with shiny white glaze for easy cleaning. I will include my personal recipe for oven-braised lamb chops with the casserole. Casserole base capacity: 2 1/2 quarts Lid /serving bowl
These casseroles are a take-off -- a smaller version of my "Harvest Jar" http : / /www .etsy .com /view _listing .php ?listing _id =30381581 and I like the way they came out. They are detail layered on detail. The gourds are small details with even further detail in the tightly painted wax-resist patterns on those gourds. Then those tightly decorated gourds rest on a basket weave pattern that I carved into the top. These then sit atop a pumpkin base with vine-like handles -- an ovenware, microwavable, food
